thee physical

so today pictureplane's new album thee physical received it's physical release.
travis egedy is a prophet, a poet, and a friend... not just to me, but to anyone fortunate enough to interact with him. admittedly this statement is based on a night spent in his company bingeing on mdma with some other close friends... a night of music, lasers, drag, shoe licking.
still rolling on our way to the airport i handed travis the camera and asked him what informs his work... the following is his response.

his new video for post physical is perfect... chaotic, beautiful, and without pretense.

aTelecine... experimental music porn.

holy shit.

no seriously, holy shit. this is completely, fucking amazing. this is the second release from aTelecine through Pendu sound recordings... and it's fucking destroying me. a collection of sound collages made from  tape loops, vocals, and instrumentation. at once creepy and reassuring... the sound is completely enveloping. reminiscent of coil... and somehow david lynch. there are even moments that feel like good doom metal should... though significantly more minimal "i came, i sat, i departed" sludges along at a perfectly balanced pace at once lazy and anxious.
i fucking love this shit... you might notice that i never really review music... i just kinda put it out there. probably for the better... but, i kinda can't help it in this case... people need to get on this...

oh yeah... this is also the music project of SASHA GREY... now, i know a fact like that shouldn't be an afterthought... but  in this case it kinda is.
fuck... what an amazing afterthought.

the present moment...

so, not fer nothin'... blogger has been kind of a dick lately... hopefully i don't incur their wrath any further by making this statement. but they've had me all fucked up in the game for some dayz now. and by that i mean weeks. i haven't been able to post for awhile and my 120 MINUTES mix that the FADER had featured has been down as well... it would seem, that someone somewhere objected to something in the track listing of side b? same issue with box.net... so whoever you is, random nameless entity that doesn't understand or appreciate mixtapes, eat a bag of dix. I even have a li'l disclaimer on the side of this here blog asking if anyone has any issue to let me know and i will voluntarily take shit down... but... life's a bitch... and apparently that bitch can't read.
moving on... we been working on a remix for this track "million to one" by THE PRESENT MOMENT.
here is an unfinished version... the original is sick... hopefully ya'll dig what we got on it. feel free to throw out feedback... def gonna tweak the vocals a bit more.

¡viva los muertos!

it's getting closer to dia de los muertos/all hallows eve/samhain/what have you... and I'm getting antsy; so me and some friends are putting together a li'l mini festival in honor of all things dark and wicked. The details are in the works right now, but what i can tell you is that we are bringing the disaro records family to the table on this and things are going to be fucking insane... dark and sweaty with some drunk thrown in.

here's a preview of the lineup.

the importance of synchronicity and happenstance: part 2

so again... i believe very strongly in the concept and importance of synchronicity, as an incredibly powerful manifestation of magic.
as i stated in my last post, said magic has been working very well for me... through a long series of these synchronicity's i have put together an evening of absolute amazing that will be happening here in san francisco on saturday the 28th of august. these synchronicity's have not yet ceased and are creating an ever greater and more fantastic reality for me and you to enjoy...
i have, through no effort of my own, but instead solely through happenstance, begun working with a few other promoters (some of them old friends, some of them new... but all of them incredibly talented and tasteful), to bring this event into fruition.
...and of course there is more... i now have oOoOO (amazing witchhouse project featured on that mixtape salem did for the fader awhile back) booked to do a dj set (along with myself and Nako)(not to mention to play live on september 25th, but more about that later)... this is seriously going to be one of the most amazing events i could ever even witness, much more, be a part of.
..oh, one more thing... the night is entitled 120 minutes (the last two hours will be all music videos) and as promotion i will be releasing a mixtape in the next week or two featuring a 60 minute long A-side mixed by me and 60 minute long B-side mixed by oOoOO. more news on that to come.

oOoOO-i live for the day (mp3)

if you dig that track, which of course you do, check out the triangle records comp dis magazine put out that it is featured on... all lyndsay lohan covers... all fucking great.

the importance of synchronicity and happenstance.

i believe very strongly in magic... and one of the most powerful ways it presents itself is through synchronicity and happenstance. synchronicity was defined by Jung as a meaningful coincidence of an external event with a psychic event, such as a dream, fantasy, or thought... these events coincide in time in a way that gives them meaning for the observer. that is, they seem as communications between a divine force and ourselves, and they confirm that there is a connection or interaction between our psyche and physical reality. this to me is magic... and Jung would generally seem to agree...

...but i digress... the point here is to explain the amazing that is taking place in my life right now... all around me, every day, i have been witness to these happy happenstances. my favorite example shall be explained in part now, and in part in an upcoming post.
yesterday i noticed an all to familiar sight that for various reasons always provokes me to intervene... actually intervene is completely the wrong word because there was no nobility or heroics involved... i just get bored and hate it when i see people i very much appreciate not getting along... you see, there was random nonsensical social networking drama... one of those situations that arises because it's very hard to truly convey sarcasm on the interwebs... and two people who i know and have known for years, but who don't know eachother, were somehow unhappily interacting... this led me to click some buttons and chat with both of them and randomly tell them that the other person involved was also an amazing person and it was likely a weird misunderstanding... again... kinda pointless, but i was bored.. the important part of this is what follows... one of said friends is an individual by the name of patrick (who runs an absolutely fantastic blog called cobain in a coma), and as i was chatting with patrick he made some mention of one of my favorite bands LIGHT ASYLUM, and one of my fave people lauren devine... so i decided to chat with lauren... and she put me in contact with light asylum's touring manager... so to make a short story long...

LIGHT ASYLUM is playing here in SF ON AUGUST 28th.

house witch.witch house

Chili pepper seeds are wonderful for protective magick and repelling. Wash them, let them dry out, and then place them in a
little glass jar with a lid. Bless your seeds in any way you wish... Make a label for your jar that reads whatever you like.
You can use the seeds to banish negativity from your home whenever you feel the need.
There are two methods for this:

1. Sprinkle a few seeds around your kitchen or home and then vacuum or sweep them out the back door. (it's best not to sweep toward your front door as you might remove your homes luck.)
2. Place some seeds in a mortar and ground them to a powder. Sprinkle the powder where needed and the proceed to vacuum or sweep up. Discard out your back door.

one of my favorite witch-house (drag) projects right now is oOoOO... and lovely enough it would appear they are based out of san francisco. me too. now i just need to put together a show for them.

CLEAR DARK

clear dark is a perfect li'l image based zine featuring the work of daniel hipolito... and it feels like trying to remember dreams.
you should contact him and order one.

"I began Clear Dark in 1995. Originally it was a freeform, non-linear, semi-autobiographical, narrative, noir, comic book-style zine. I always intended to suggest things as a story and not tell events directly.

As time went on I began to increase the production value, to draw without dialog, and with less and less panels per page, until ending up with something more abstract yet photorealistic, and psychedelic yet less delirious. The last issue, number 8, took many hours over many years to complete. As with many artists, I imagine my work to be a distillation of what I am and what I've seen. I suppose there's been a lot happening."

the above is the statement daniel gave in explanation of clear dark... i also asked him for a few songs to sketch out a soundtrack. spending time with these images and sounds stimulates some very strange and particular feelings... as though these are my panels of moments having happened in my life... or, again, in some sort of dream i've had... incidentally, here are the songs i was listening to before daniel sent me his list.

the caretaker.

i've been watching a lot of twin peaks lately.
and jennifer was playing the caretaker all morning... and somehow the two make a lot of sense together.

he takes old ballroom 78's and slows 'em down, adds a bunch of reverb, some field recordings... and generally makes them super creepy in every possible way... the result is amazing... absolutely amazing.
there is a fabulous interview with/article about him in cyclic defrost magazine... an australian publication that apparently focuses on "interesting music".
speaking of twin peaks/interesting music... have you listened to the twin peaks/black metal inspired, love song to the wind that is the new mount eerie album winds poem?
seriously, listen to this song (and yes that is a sample from laura's theme).

witchcraft.

here, download and listen to this right now.
witchcraft-her sisters they were weak mp3

for some reason or other recently i've become re-infatuated with the occult... (as a kid i had fancied myself a witch... performing half assed spells with candles and a little bloodletting... even carved the rune of protection into my hand deep enough that the scar still persists in bringing a smile to my face from time to time.) now as goth as all this might sound, it was really just some typical 'misunderstood' middle school kid bullshit... one part new age hippie town, one part broken home, one part 'the craft'...
it's just lame i didn't spend enough time studying wicca, paganism and the church of satan a bit more closely so as to have walked away with a broader understanding of the diverse concepts of spirituality and the universe the various sects had to offer...particularly with regard to style.

stevie nicks-rhiannon (piano demo) mp3
strangely, i'm not usually a big fleetwood mac fan... but these demos of stevie solo on the piano (and copious amounts of pills, cocaine, and booze) are absolutely amazing.

stevie nicks-sisters of the moon (piano demo) mp3

stevie nicks-planets of the universe (piano demo) mp3
there is definitely some amazing magical component to her awesomeness with regard to these demos... witchy woman.
i'm thinking about going to witchfest international in november... but it's in london so i would have to crash with friends...

on a vaguely related note, suspiria, a club night in san francisco based entirely on the perfect style and cold atmospheric music of the dario argento film suspiria, is having it's last hoorah this wednesday eve... and i very much think all should attend.

for good measure, here's a copy of the insanely amazing title track to suspiria's soundtrack by goblin.
